The God of War TV series for Prime Video is set to recast the actors playing Atreus and Thrud for its second season, according to a new report, adding to existing production troubles. This follows news last month that Ryan Hurst, originally cast as Kratos, will also be replaced after sustaining an injury during filming, meaning the show now faces multiple lead recastings before its first episode has even aired.

Outlet MP1st uncovered May casting calls seeking actors aged 14 to 17 for the roles, rather than the 9 to 12 age range originally sought for Callum Vinson and Island Austin's characters. The change reflects the show's plan to jump from adapting the 2018 God of War game in season one to God of War Ragnarok in season two, which requires older actors as Atreus and Thrud take on more action-focused roles. No other major recasts are expected, but the show still lacks a premiere date, as filming must restart with a new Kratos actor; the next game in the series, God of War Laufey, is due on PS5 on 16 February 2027.
