Spider-Man: Brand New Day has broken box office records at its opening weekend, marking a strong recovery for the Marvel Cinematic Universe following a run of underperforming releases. The franchise, still the highest-grossing in film history, had recently struggled with titles such as The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts*, all of which fell short of expectations relative to their budgets or predecessors.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland, the film took $168 million domestically on its opening day, surpassing Avengers: Endgame's previous record of $157 million from 2019. It also exceeded the domestic debut of its own predecessor, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which had grossed $260 million over its opening weekend in 2021. While Endgame's opening weekend total of $357 million domestically and roughly $1.2 billion worldwide remains a broader record, Brand New Day's performance signals renewed audience enthusiasm for the MCU after several lacklustre years.
