Baba is You and UFO 50’s Party House are getting unexpected board game adaptations
Two beloved indie video games are being turned into physical board games. Party House, a standout minigame from UFO 50, is becoming a deckbuilder, while the acclaimed 2019 puzzle game Baba is You is being adapted into a competitive tabletop title. Both projects are notable because they take design-heavy digital concepts, built around emergent rules and careful resource balancing, and translate them into tabletop form with input from their original creators, suggesting faithful rather than superficial adaptations.
Party House: The Deckbuilding Game, designed by original creator Jon Perry, expands to four players and simplifies mechanics by merging money and popularity into one currency and combining house capacity with a "Trouble" threshold. Baba is You: The Board Game, developed with input from creator Hempuli Oy alongside Peter C. Hayward and publisher Bitewing Games, reworks the game's rule-manipulation puzzle mechanics into a competitive format where players race to link an "Is You" tile with an "Is Win" tile. Both titles will launch a joint Kickstarter campaign on 15 September.
