NME · 4 hours ago

The stage musical adaptation of Prince's *Purple Rain* is transferring to Broadway, opening at the Majestic Theatre with a new creative team. Directed by Saheem Ali with a book by Peter Duchan, the production follows the 1984 film's story and features Prince's music, including "When Doves Cry" and the title track, marking a significant tribute to the late musician's legacy as it reaches Broadway audiences for the first time.

Performances begin on 12th March 2027, with an official opening night set for 12th April, and tickets go on sale this September. The musical premiered in Minneapolis last year with a different creative team, and Bobby Z and Morris Hayes, both long-time Prince collaborators, are serving as music advisers, while Orin Wolf leads production. The news comes alongside other Prince developments, including the forthcoming release of "Timeless", an album of ten previously unreleased tracks due out on 28th August to mark the tenth anniversary of his death.
