Transgender ‘lady of the manor’ sells her castle to U.S. couple

Daily Mail · 4 hours ago

Samantha Kane, who calls herself Lady Carbisdale and is thought to be the only person in the UK to have changed sex three times, has sold her Highland stately home, Carbisdale Castle, to an American couple. The 66-year-old had bought the property near Ardgay in 2022, fulfilling what she described as a dream to become "a princess in her own fairytale", and says she spent between £4 million and £5 million, including the purchase price, restoring it.

The new owners are Lance and Suzanne Holmquist, who run the Calypso sailing business in Florida and previously restored the steamboat used in the classic film The African Queen. They have registered a company called Carbisdale Castle Estates Ltd to hold the 118-year-old property. Mrs Holmquist, 50, is originally from Glasgow and attended St Augustine's Secondary School there, describing herself as American/British, while her husband, 65, is American.
