Ash surprised fans at Kendal Calling festival by secretly performing as their own tribute act before revealing their true identity and receiving gold discs for their 1996 hit "Girl From Mars". The stunt, staged at Tim Peaks Diner during the 2026 festival at Lowther Deer Park near Penrith, saw the trio billed as fictional support act "Rehash" before launching into their own back catalogue, delighting a crowd unaware they were watching the genuine band.

The set, arranged with Charlatans frontman and Tim Peaks host Tim Burgess, featured performances of "Kung Fu", "Girl From Mars" and "Burn Baby Burn". Drummer Rick McMurray, the only member let in on the surprise, was presented with gold discs alongside bandmates Tim Wheeler and Mark Hamilton, marking "Girl From Mars" becoming their first single to reach the required 400,000 sales, as tracked by the BPI. The timing coincided with the song's 31st anniversary, with Kendal Calling 2026 also featuring sets from Wolf Alice, Biffy Clyro, Primal Scream and The Libertines.
