A woman dubbed a "black widow" fraudster who conned a vulnerable pensioner out of money has been jailed after spending 16 months on the run in Tenerife. She was eventually tracked down and returned to the UK to face justice, bringing an end to a case that highlighted how fraudsters can exploit elderly and vulnerable victims for financial gain.

The court heard details of how the woman targeted her victim before fleeing abroad to evade arrest, only being apprehended after more than a year in hiding. Following her return, she was convicted and sentenced to prison for the fraud offences committed against the pensioner.
