At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, directors Zach Cregger and the duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley appeared on Collider's Directors on Directing panel, moderated by Steven Weintraub, to discuss their careers and upcoming projects. The panel offered fans a rare look behind the scenes of several major upcoming releases, including the first trailer for Goldstein and Daley's Apple TV action-comedy Mayday, plus updates on their forthcoming Star Trek film and Cregger's film adaptation of Resident Evil.

The session featured guest questions from fellow filmmakers David Leitch, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, as well as Eric Kripke, Jason Statham and Josh Brolin. Cregger, who directed Barbarian and Weapons, revealed he was already filming Resident Evil in Prague when Weapons became a huge critical and commercial success, meaning he missed much of the reaction at the time; he also teased a prequel centred on Amy Madigan's Weapons character Aunt Gladys and a new original science-fiction script. Mayday stars Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh. The panel closed with a surprise appearance from Johnny Depp, dressed as Ebenezer Scrooge, unveiling the first trailer for his adaptation Ebenezer.
