DC Reveals Terrifying New Joker
Prime Video's "Batman: Caped Crusader" has unveiled its Season 2 Joker, with actor Matthew Needham describing a version of the villain that diverges sharply from previous portrayals, including Mark Hamill's celebrated animated take. Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, Needham explained that a single detail in the casting brief, describing the character as "European and humourless", persuaded him it was worth auditioning despite his initial reluctance to follow in the footsteps of an actor as iconic as Hamill.
Needham said he deliberately avoided imitating Hamill, Troy Baker or any other past performer, instead trusting the creative team's fresh vision for the character. He described this Joker as "not funny… not manic… not gleeful", but "very serious, very cold, not fun, but absolutely evil", marking a departure from the manic, gleeful energy that has typically defined the Clown Prince of Crime on screen.
