Amazon MGM Studios' Orion Pictures has acquired the horror comedy "Howl," which will mark actor Kumail Nanjiani's directing debut. Nanjiani, best known for "Silicon Valley" and "The Big Sick," will also star in the film, working from a script by Madison Vanderberg that previously featured on the 2024 Black List. The project adds a directorial credit to Nanjiani's growing slate of film and television work.

The film follows a famous but troubled actor who announces live on a talk show that he will turn into a werewolf within the hour. It will be produced by Weed Road Pictures' Akiva Goldsman, Greg Lessans and Rachel Wizenberg, alongside Nanjiani, his wife Emily V. Gordon and Dani Melia through their Winter Coat Films banner. Nanjiani has a busy upcoming slate that includes HBO's "The White Lotus" season four, the FX series "Very Young Frankenstein" and Judd Apatow's "The Comeback King," while Vanderberg is currently writing the Netflix comedy "Corporate Retreat."
