Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty has said he would not rule out a reunion of the influential Washington, D.C. post-hardcore band, telling Consequence "I never say never" when asked about the group's future. Fugazi went on hiatus in 2003, having last performed live in November 2002, but Canty's comments will renew hope among long-time fans that the band, known for their DIY ethos and fiercely independent approach to the music industry, could one day return to the stage.

Canty said he and bandmates Ian MacKaye, Guy Picciotto and Joe Lally remain close friends who regularly meet and communicate, even though they no longer perform together; earlier this year they released the "In on the Kill Taker" Albini Sessions for charity. He admitted he personally wishes the band could still be playing live, saying "I love those songs, I love writing with those guys," and expressed surprise at how much affection Fugazi has continued to receive during more than two decades away from the stage. Canty currently plays alongside Lally in the band The Messthetics and was speaking to promote his work scoring the new documentary "Stolen Kingdom".
