‘Gagarine’ Directors Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh Talk ‘The Green Eyes’ as Kinology Announces First Sales: ‘Dreamers Know No Borders’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety ·

Kinology has been appointed international sales agent for "The Green Eyes," the new film from Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh, the directing duo behind "Gagarine," and has already pre-sold the title to several territories ahead of its Locarno Film Festival opening. The deal marks a significant early vote of confidence in the pair's follow-up feature, which will have the honour of opening this year's festival on the Piazza Grande, underscoring their standing among prominent contemporary French filmmakers.

The film has been pre-sold to Benelux (Cinart), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Turkey (Chantier) and the former Yugoslavia region (MCF), with French distribution handled by producer Haut et Court; it is produced by June Films and Haut et Court, and co-produced by Les Films du Fleuve and Hobab. "The Green Eyes" opens Locarno on 5 August and follows a young girl, Chaya, whose brother Nour falls into a mysterious sleep after their family faces eviction, a storyline inspired by real-life cases of "resignation syndrome" affecting children of asylum seekers; the directors said they researched the condition with doctors and recovered patients to ground the film's blend of social realism and fantasy.

In short

  • Kinology becomes sales agent for "The Green Eyes," pre-selling it to four territories
  • Film by "Gagarine" directors opens Locarno Film Festival on 5 August
  • Story draws on real "resignation syndrome" cases among asylum-seeker children

Explained simply

Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh are French film-makers whose first feature, Gagarine, brought them wider attention. Their new film, The Green Eyes, centres on Chaya and her brother Nour, who falls into a mysterious sleep as their family faces eviction.

The story draws on reported cases of “resignation syndrome”, in which children of asylum seekers have become withdrawn and unresponsive. The directors say they spoke with doctors and people who had recovered, combining that research with elements of fantasy.

The film is produced by June Films and Haut et Court, with several European partners, and Haut et Court handles its release in France. International sales agent Kinology has secured advance sales in several territories, showing how films reach distributors in different countries before release.
