Rotherham MP John Healey has marked two years since the violent disturbance at the Manvers Holiday Inn, reflecting on the riot's impact and the justice process that followed. The 2024 unrest, part of wider national disorder, saw rioters attack the hotel, which was then housing asylum seekers, and matters because it brought unwanted national attention to the town while highlighting the resilience of local staff and residents who rebuilt afterwards.

In his piece, Healey recalls speaking with police officers and hotel staff who barricaded themselves in the kitchen as rioters smashed the ground floor, entered rooms and attempted to set the building alight with people still inside. He notes that 120 people have now been convicted over the disorder, with the final prosecution completed weeks ago, and says he has worked with the hotel's owners on its refurbishment, while acknowledging that underlying concerns about immigration and asylum policy remain a government priority to address.
