Sony's "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has set a new Indian box office record, overtaking "Avengers: Endgame" to become the biggest opening for a non-Indian film in the country's history. The film earned INR72.44 crore ($7.6 million) on its opening day alone, with nearly 1 million cinemagoers turning out on the first Thursday, underlining the continued strength of Hollywood blockbusters in the Indian market.

Across its four-day opening weekend, the film grossed INR328.5 crore ($34.4 million) from 17,250 screens, making it the fourth highest-grossing Hollywood release ever in India and putting it within reach of the all-time records held by "Avatar: The Way of Water" ($50.8 million) and "Avengers: Endgame" ($46.4 million). Strong multilingual demand drove the numbers, with the Hindi dub hitting 95% occupancy and Telugu and Tamil versions adding further momentum, while Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi led metro-level ticket sales.
