James Ellis Ford shares message to son from hospital bed on hypnotic new single ‘The Ever After’
James Ellis Ford, the producer and former Simian Mobile Disco member, has released a new solo single, 'The Ever After', from his upcoming second album 'Lost In Another World'. The track was written as a personal message to his eight-year-old son Frank while Ford was undergoing chemotherapy in hospital for acute myeloid leukaemia, and he has said he was trying to focus on positive things and the joy his son brings to the world.
The whole album was written and recorded in just over two weeks in early 2025 while Ford was isolated on a hospital ward between chemotherapy sessions, using a laptop and microphone his wife brought in. It follows his 2023 debut 'The Hum' and features 12 tracks in total, with 'The Ever After' appearing at number 10. The record, released on 14 August via Domino, explores themes of mortality and cherishing small moments with his son; Ford, known for producing artists including Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode and Blur, is due to perform at Green Man Festival on 22 August.
