‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Scores Biggest All-Time Middle East Opening Weekend Amid Stunts & Drone Shows
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has recorded the biggest opening weekend in Middle East box office history, according to distributor Empire Entertainment, underscoring the region's growing importance as a cinema market and the enduring pull of the Spider-Man franchise. The release, on 30 July, was marked by elaborate promotional stunts, including a Spider-Man performer scaling Dubai's Frame landmark and a 600-drone light show over the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
The film took US$18.4 million across the Middle East, with the UAE contributing $7.4 million and Saudi Arabia $5.4 million, alongside record hauls in Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman. That easily surpasses previous Spider-Man openings in the region, such as No Way Home's $15 million in 2021. Empire's president Mario Haddad Jr said the result, the tenth Spider-Man film the firm has distributed there, reflects wider audience appetite for cinema-going, and it echoes the film's global performance, which saw a $927 million worldwide opening weekend, the second-biggest in box office history.
