Broadway performer Ben Davis, known for his role in the Tony-winning revival of Ragtime, is joining the cast of Hadestown as Hades, filling the vacancy left by Geno Segers. Segers had been due to begin performances in September but exited the production after old social media posts expressing hostility towards trans people resurfaced, prompting public backlash; he later apologised, though without directly referencing the trans community.

Davis will take on the role from Tuesday, 1 September, producers Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold and Tom Kirdahy announced. He joins an already-revamped principal cast including Jasmin Savoy Brown as Eurydice, two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz as Hermes, Tony nominee Amber Iman as Persephone, and musician Kayko as Orpheus. Davis's extensive Broadway credits include Dear Evan Hansen, Les Misérables and New York, New York, alongside concert appearances with orchestras such as the BBC Proms and La Scala, and television roles on Law & Order: SVU and The Game.
