The Premiership salary cap currently stands at £6.4m per club, with a new floor of £5.4m introduced for 2026-27, limiting how much room clubs have to accommodate one high earner. Only Newcastle were thought to have sufficient cap space according to the last published 2024-25 report, though their position may have changed since a takeover and recent signings. One route for Pollock to stay at Northampton would be via the "excluded player" (marquee player) exemption, but rules state a player must have been at the club for two full salary cap years before being nominated, meaning Pollock cannot use this mechanism next season, and averaging rules over three years prevent clubs from front-loading pay to skirt the cap.
