Mafia: The Old Country's upcoming Man of Honor expansion will significantly expand the game's open-world "Free Ride" mode, addressing criticism that the base game's Sicily setting felt sparsely populated with activities. The change matters because it brings the game's open world closer in line with genre contemporaries such as Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, giving players more reasons to explore beyond the linear main story, which had been the game's strongest element at launch.

Developer Hangar 13 previously overhauled the open-world Explore mode via last November's Free Ride update, and Man of Honor builds further on this. Returning character Salieri drives much of the new content, offering side-quest jobs plus standoff, assassination, circuit race, time trial and road sprint challenges across Sicily; players can also independently hunt outlaws, complete stunt jumps and earn in-game currency Dinari to unlock weapons, vehicles, outfits and charms. Mafia: The Old Country – Man of Honor launches on PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X on 14 August.
