Russian ballistic missile strike on Kyiv kills one and injures others

BBC World · 4 hours ago

Russia has launched a large-scale ballistic missile and drone attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region, killing one person and injuring at least 12 others. Officials said residential buildings and warehouses were hit in the capital and in the Bucha, Brovary and Fastiv districts, with fears that people could be trapped under rubble in the city centre. The strike is part of an intensifying pattern of Russian attacks on Kyiv in recent weeks, and comes as air defences and civilian infrastructure across both countries continue to face repeated assaults.

Kyiv's military administration reported one woman killed and more than 12 wounded, with air raid alerts in place for over an hour as waves of missiles struck the city and its outskirts. The attack follows a series of tit-for-tat strikes: Ukraine has recently hit Russian civilian infrastructure and repeatedly targeted Wildberries warehouses, with five killed near Moscow on Tuesday, while Russia says a Ukrainian drone strike on a Krasnodar beach killed seven and injured 58. Ukraine has also accused Russian forces of deliberately "hunting" a civilian with a drone in Kherson, an allegation Moscow denies, and Kyiv is pressing allies for more Patriot missile interceptors.
