Alba Rohrwacher-Starrer ‘A Common Story’ Gets Boarded by True Colours Ahead of its Venice and Toronto Premieres (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety · 5 hours ago

Italian sales company True Colours has acquired world sales rights (outside Italy) to "A Common Story" ("Una Storia"), the directorial debut of actress-turned-filmmaker Anna Foglietta, starring Alba Rohrwacher. The deal comes ahead of the film's premieres at the Venice and Toronto film festivals, marking an international push for a first-time director already known to audiences through her acting work, notably in the hit comedy "Perfect Strangers".

The drama follows a couple, Erika (Rohrwacher) and Mauro (Guido Caprino), whose rural life and marriage are thrown into crisis when their daughter leaves home for university abroad. It will have its world premiere in Venice's Horizons section in September before moving to Toronto's Discovery section. The film is produced by HT Film, Indigo Film, Tenderstories and Blu One Lab, with backing from RAI Cinema and HBO Max, and will be distributed in Italy by BIM Distribuzione; it joins other 2026 titles on True Colours' slate, including Dario Albertini's "Armony" and Susanna Nicchiarelli's "Happy Days".
