Doom pioneers Sleep have announced a new album, "Hemispheres," due out this autumn as the follow-up to 2018's "The Sciences." The announcement confirms the band's new lineup, first revealed in June alongside 2026 tour dates and a comic book tie-in, and arrives alongside the release of a fresh single.
The band's founding singer, bassist and songwriter Al Cisneros is now joined by Melvins drummer Dale Crover and Void guitarist Bubba Dupree, with Cisneros praising the chemistry of the new trio and comparing the sound to "blue sunglasses-era Iommi." "Hemispheres" was recorded at the Melvins' studio with longtime engineer Toshi Kasai and comprises five tracks, including the previously released opener "Have Spacesuit Will Travel" and new single "The Morrisist." It lands digitally on 3 September and physically on 30 October via Third Man Records.

Sleep are among the founding bands of doom metal, a slow, heavy offshoot of rock and metal, and have built a cult following since the 1990s despite releasing music sparingly. Their last album, "The Sciences," came out in 2018, so "Hemispheres" marks a significant return. The band centres on Al Cisneros, who has led the group as singer, bassist and songwriter throughout its history.
Earlier in 2026 the band had already signalled a comeback with tour dates and a comic book tie-in, and in June they confirmed a new lineup. Cisneros is now joined by Dale Crover, drummer for the influential band Melvins, and Bubba Dupree, guitarist from the punk group Void, replacing previous members.
The changes matter to fans because Sleep's sound has always been shaped by the chemistry between its members, and this is the first new lineup to record a full album together. The new record was made at Melvins' own studio with an engineer who has worked with the band before, tying the two acts closer together.
