Capcom has released a free demo for Monster Hunter Wilds, more than a year after the full game launched in February 2025, giving undecided players a taste of the action RPG before committing to a purchase. The Prologue Demo lets users create their Hunter and Palico companion and play through the game's opening five missions, with progress carrying over to the full game if bought, making it a useful trial for those still weighing whether to invest in the title.

The demo omits two notable features: photo mode and all online functionality, meaning players cannot experience the series' collaborative multiplayer during the trial. Its release coincides with Capcom simplifying Wilds' pricing structure, cutting the base game to $39.99 and introducing a $79.99 Gold Edition bundling DLC and cosmetics, ahead of a paid expansion, Ascendance, due in 2027. Monster Hunter Wilds is currently available on PS5, PC and Xbox Series X, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version in development.
