Switch 2 Surpasses 23 Million Units As Nintendo Claims Sales Remain “Solid”
Nintendo's Switch 2 has passed the 23 million unit mark since launch, officially outpacing the GameCube. The hardware shipped 3.82 million units in the first quarter of its second fiscal year, marking a decline compared to the prior year's launch-driven performance. However, Nintendo contends that the current adoption trajectory matches or exceeds the original Switch's comparable period, with the decline attributable to normalisation after strong initial demand and a price adjustment that commenced in the Japanese market in May.
Game software revenue grew in the same quarter, increasing 9.2% year-on-year with 9.46 million units sold, signalling sustained consumer engagement. The original Switch continues contributing meaningfully to the company's bottom line, with 156.59 million lifetime units sold. Nintendo's published guidance for the remaining fiscal year projects sales of 16.5 million Switch 2 consoles and 60 million software units, and the company has signalled that a western price increase scheduled for September will be monitored for its commercial effects.
