A residential property in Sheffield's Woodthorpe area was completely destroyed when a fire deliberately set in nearby grassland rapidly spread through gardens and engulfed the house on Harthill Road on 5 August. South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue confirmed the blaze was started intentionally and praised their teams' response during an exceptionally demanding operational period.

The incident was one of two confirmed arson attacks across Sheffield that evening, with a second fire also deliberately started near the city's derelict former ski village. Fire service officials emphasised that arson carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and appealed to residents to report suspected fire-starters anonymously to Firestoppers on 0800 169 5558.
