Abbe Lane, a nightclub singer, recording artist and actor who became a familiar face on American television during the 1960s and '70s, has died aged 93. She passed away from natural causes on 25 April in Los Angeles, with her death reported by her son Steven Leff to The Hollywood Reporter.

Born Abigail Francine Lassman in Brooklyn in 1932, Lane began as a child performer and Broadway dancer before bandleader Xavier Cugat spotted her and hired her as a singer; the pair married in 1952 and divorced 12 years later, with Lane later saying the marriage was mentally abusive. Her subsequent European tours made her a star in Italy, where she appeared in more than 20 films, while in the US she became a Las Vegas headliner and regular guest on shows including The Ed Sullivan Show, The Tonight Show and The Dean Martin Show, as well as game shows such as Password and What's My Line. She later married agent Perry Leff, who died in 2020, and is survived by her sons Steven and Andrew and a granddaughter.
