Microsoft is finally bringing Platinum Achievements to the Xbox
Microsoft has announced that Xbox will finally introduce Platinum Achievements, a feature long associated with PlayStation's Platinum Trophy system, marking a significant shift for its console after decades of relying solely on the Gamerscore model. The move addresses a gap Xbox users have long noted, as PlayStation's Platinum Trophy has widely been seen as the more prestigious way of recognising full completion of a game, whereas Xbox's Gamerscore simply totals points earned across all achievements.
The announcement, made via Xbox's official social media account on 5 August 2026, forms part of a broader set of quality-of-life updates rolling out to Xbox Insiders. Alongside Platinum Achievements, the update includes new ways to view achievements, voice chat within game captures, greater control over cloud saves, and an expanded wishlist for adding more games. The changes are currently being tested with Insiders ahead of a wider rollout.
