Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx has defended the band's use of backing tracks during live concerts, responding to fan questions in a Q&A on X. He explained that the tracks are used to layer in elements the band cannot replicate live, such as orchestral or saxophone parts, which are synced with the musicians' actual playing, insisting the band still performs "100% live" for the benefit of fans.

Sixx's comments follow renewed allegations that singer Vince Neil has been lip-syncing during shows, after footage surfaced appearing to show vocals continuing after he lowered his microphone. The controversy echoes a 2023 lawsuit by former guitarist Mick Mars, who claimed vocals and other elements of the band's performances were pre-recorded; Neil and the band's attorney denied this, and an arbitrator rejected all of Mars's claims in January, which the band described as full vindication.
