Netflix has released Stranger Things: Tales from '85, an animated spin-off that marks the franchise's first major follow-up since the original series concluded in January 2026. Rather than serving as a direct sequel or prequel, it revisits the core cast during a previously unexplored time jump, offering reassurance that the story can continue to expand even without the original live-action actors returning.

Set during the winter between Seasons 2 and 3, the series follows young versions of El, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas and Max as they confront a new plant-based threat emerging from the Upside Down, voiced by a new cast including Brooklyn Davey Norstedt and Luca Diaz. By focusing on the friendship-driven dynamic that made the original show popular while introducing a fresh mystery, the animated format allows Netflix to keep expanding the Stranger Things universe beyond the flagship series' divisive finale.
