The Meaning Behind Every Song on Karol G’s Most Personal Album, In Her Own Words

Rolling Stone · 4 weeks ago

Karol G has released "No Me Arrepiento de Sentir Tanto", a surprise album she describes as her most personal and vulnerable work to date, arriving amid her Viajando Por El Mundo Tropitour. In an interview, the Colombian singer explained that the record grew out of a difficult period following her Tropicoqueta era, during which she experienced a public break-up, family difficulties and heavy criticism, prompting her to step back from her career entirely.

After telling her team she needed to pause during Latin Grammys week, Karol G spent around six weeks living alone in Hawaii, writing notebooks full of lyrics and poems without initially intending to make an album. Reading letters from fans helped her reconnect with her emotions and eventually return to the studio, producing an experimental pop record featuring collaborators including Drake, Bruno Mars, Judeline and Rusowsky, alongside longtime producers Ovy on the Drums, Sky Rompiendo, Edgar Barrera and Tainy.
