Newly released security footage shows a magnitude 6.8 earthquake shaking an operating room at Kumamoto General Hospital in Japan last month. Medical staff protected a patient undergoing abdominal surgery as equipment swayed, highlighting the risks hospitals face when emergencies strike during critical treatment.

Four operations were taking place when the earthquake hit on 28 July, and the hospital said all were completed successfully. A nurse opened a door to secure an evacuation route, while outpatient services, initially suspended after the quake, resumed normally on 5 August.
