The Hottest New AI Chatbot Is Just a Guy Answering Your Questions
ChatTJB is a chatbot presented as AI-powered but actually answered by its creator, Tucker Bryant, a 32-year-old former Google project manager. The project has attracted attention as an art piece commenting on people’s growing tendency to delegate everyday decisions and thinking to generative AI.
Bryant launched the service in April, but interest surged after a $6,000 San Francisco billboard appeared on 27 July; by 6 August, he said it had received more than 30,000 queries and peaked at roughly 5,000 prompts an hour. He personally replies with written advice or rough drawings, and says users increasingly share sincere personal questions; he has recruited 10 volunteers after more than 3,000 people applied to help.
- A human-operated chatbot is satirising reliance on AI.
- It received over 30,000 queries after a billboard campaign.
- Users value a real person’s response over expert advice.
