‘The Blue Trail’ Director Gabriel Mascaro and Top Brazilian Producer Paula Cosenza Launch Trema, Set First Slate (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety · 3 weeks ago

Brazilian director Gabriel Mascaro and producer Paula Cosenza have launched Trema, a production company based in Recife, north-east Brazil, focused on international co-productions, scripted series and auteur-led films with global ambitions. The venture aims to turn Pernambuco cinema’s growing international profile into practical production, financing and talent infrastructure, following the visibility gained by Brazilian titles including Mascaro’s ‘The Blue Trail’.

Trema has launched with a slate of largely financed projects spanning Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Spain, France and Portugal, including films ‘Three Dark Nights’, ‘Rafael’, ‘Arca’ and ‘Paula & Hortencia’, plus the limited series ‘Oásis’. ‘Arca’ is the first project backed by Trema’s own public-private investment fund, while Mascaro is developing his next feature and considering an adaptation of a Brazilian literary work through the company.
