Norwegian band SHINING has released “North”, a new single combining industrial metal, distorted vocals, heavy riffs and the group’s distinctive saxophone sound. Founder Jørgen Munkeby said the track pays tribute to the harshness of northern life and the resilience associated with it, while signalling that the band is moving into a new phase.

SHINING wrote, recorded and mixed the song independently, and filmed its video at drummer Simen Sandnes’s mountain cabin. The release came ahead of the band’s “Blackjazz” performance at Bloodstock Open Air on 7 August, as it continues work on a new album; its 2018 song “Animal” has exceeded 13 million Spotify streams.
