Moving away from Windows is getting a little easier, as Linux will soon support more SteelSeries gaming headsets
Linux is set to gain broader support for SteelSeries gaming headsets through a proposed driver update for the Linux 7.3 kernel. This could make switching from Windows easier for headset owners by improving features that have previously worked inconsistently, such as battery reporting and wireless functionality.
Developer Sriman Achanta’s patch set covers 14 models, including the Arctis Nova 5X and Arctis Nova 7 Gen 2. A December 2025 update had already expanded support to more than 25 SteelSeries headsets, adding controls such as sidetone, auto-sleep, microphone settings, volume limits and Bluetooth options. The article notes that improved support is particularly relevant for expensive models, with the Arctis Nova Elite priced at £599.99.
- Linux 7.3 may support 14 more SteelSeries headsets.
- The update improves compatibility and headset controls.
- Earlier work added support for over 25 models.
