GTA 6 Pre-Orders Are ‘Exceptional’ So Far, Says Take-Two Boss

Push Square ·

Take-Two Interactive says pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 have made an “exceptional start”, according to chief executive Strauss Zelnick. The early demand reinforces expectations that Rockstar’s next major release will be one of the industry’s biggest launches, ahead of its planned November release.

The publisher reported $1.39 billion in net bookings for the latest quarter, during which GTA 6 pre-orders were available for only the final five days. Take-Two did not disclose pre-order figures or how much GTA 6 contributed; it also reported quarterly revenue of $1.53 billion and cited better-than-expected performance from the NBA 2K and GTA franchises.

  • GTA 6 pre-orders have started exceptionally, Take-Two says.
  • Pre-orders were open for only five days of the quarter.
  • Take-Two did not disclose specific GTA 6 sales figures.

Grand Theft Auto, or GTA, is a long-running series of video games made by Rockstar Games, which is part of publisher Take-Two Interactive. Players explore a fictional city and take on missions, and each main release attracts attention from players and the wider games industry.

Take-Two is a publicly traded company whose business includes publishing games such as GTA and NBA 2K. “Net bookings” is the value of products and services sold during a period, before some sales are recognised as revenue. Pre-orders are purchases made before a game is released, so they can indicate interest but do not reveal how many copies will ultimately be sold.

GTA 6 is the next main game in the series, and its planned release makes it a major upcoming product for Take-Two and Rockstar. Its performance may affect the companies’ sales and future plans, while also drawing attention to the scale of demand for a new game in a well-known franchise.
