Palace sign defender Tomiyasu after pre-season trial

BBC Sport · 24 hours ago

Crystal Palace have signed Japan defender Takehiro Tomiyasu after he impressed during a pre-season trial. The 27-year-old arrives as a free agent and adds versatility and top-level experience to a Palace side rebuilding under new manager Pierre Sage following Maxence Lacroix’s move to Chelsea.

Tomiyasu, who has 46 Japan caps and was in the country’s World Cup squad this summer, played 84 times for Arsenal between 2021 and 2025 and can operate at full-back or centre-back. He is Palace’s second signing under Sage after Oscar Mingueza, although the contract length has not been disclosed; the club must also manage Uefa financial rules as it prepares for Europa League football.
