Newest Overwatch hero D.Mon’s design is deliberate to differentiate her from D.Va, devs say

Destructoid · 22 hours ago

Overwatch’s new tank hero, D.Mon, will join the game’s fourth season on 11 August, and Blizzard says her design was deliberately developed to prevent her feeling like a second version of D.Va. The distinction matters because both characters are South Korean former esports champions in the MEKA Squad who pilot mechs, prompting player concern that their roles and appearance would overlap too closely.

Developers said D.Mon, whose real name is Yuna Lee, is intended to represent a different kind of gamer and have her own personality, motivations and relationship with D.Va. Visually, D.Va’s mech is posed aggressively with its guns forward, while D.Mon stands more upright and uses a sword-and-shield style; her revealed pilot form also prompted controversy because more of her body is exposed.

  • Blizzard says D.Mon is designed to stand apart from D.Va.
  • The new tank hero arrives on 11 August.
  • Her visual design has already drawn player criticism.
