Ravyn Lenae’s third album, Blue Island, is presented as a thoughtful expansion of the Chicago singer’s sound and perspective, using romance, independence and self-protection to explore life beyond her roots. The review argues that Lenae approaches love with curiosity and compassion, while increasingly choosing emotional clarity and boundaries when relationships become damaging.

The album includes a recorded conversation with Lenae’s grandfather on “Never Let Me Go”, linking the project to her South Side family home and earlier albums Hypnos (2022) and Bird’s Eye (2024). Her breakthrough single “Love Me Not” eventually reached Number Five on the Billboard Hot 100, and Blue Island builds on that wider attention through songs including “In & Out”, “Barriers”, “Saturday Night”, “Bobby” and “Wish You Well”; “Never Let Me Go” also interpolates Charles Jackson’s 1978 song “Love of You”.
