A prison officer has been jailed for eight months after sending sexually explicit Snapchat photographs and messages to a prisoner involved in a County Lines drugs operation. The case matters because the judge said her conduct undermined prison discipline and public confidence in the criminal justice system.

Jahvine Kwamba, 21, began a relationship in 2024 with Roberts Sokolovs while working at HMP Fosse Way in Leicestershire, and admitted misconduct in public office and unauthorised transmission from prison. The pair had 5,441 Snapchat contacts while he was in prison and 4,211 after his transfer to an immigration removal centre; Kwamba also received £1,495 from his mother, while £4,665 was paid to her. Sokolovs, known as the “Latvian Pablo Escobar”, was deported to Latvia in November 2024 and was not interviewed; his mother and sister received suspended and community sentences respectively.
