Michael Johnson says athletes owed money by the bankrupt Grand Slam Track league have now been paid, after its collapse left several prominent runners facing losses of more than £100,000. The former Olympic champion said the failure resulted from investors withdrawing funding, and the payments are significant for competitors affected by the league’s abrupt cancellation and bankruptcy.

Grand Slam Track cancelled its final Los Angeles event and filed for US bankruptcy in December 2025; athlete managers later said it owed more than $30m (£22.5m). Johnson also rejected claims that he had secretly paid himself $500,000 before the collapse, saying it was reimbursement for travel costs charged to his personal card; he said he had lent the company $2m and given up his salary.
