Ashby Gentry says Alex Walter’s break-up with Jackie in the third season of My Life With the Walter Boys is the natural resolution to the show’s central romantic conflict. He believes Jackie has always been in love with Cole, while still caring for Alex, leaving Alex to begin healing after hearing her confession and to rebuild his sense of self.

Alex’s recovery is complicated by family upheaval after George’s stroke, uncertainty around his rodeo ambitions and emerging feelings for his best friend Kylie, who is dating Dylan. Gentry says Alex is trying to discover what he wants from life and find confidence in something he excels at, while joking that Dylan has been written as too likeable for Alex to disrupt his relationship.
