Ronnie Romero has said artificial intelligence is a valuable creative tool for music, but cannot fully replace human performance and expression. The singer, known for work with Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow and Michael Schenker, argued that AI-generated material can sound impressive yet often lacks the natural qualities, emotion and individuality of a human voice.
Romero said he sometimes receives AI-created vocal lines for collaborations and may adapt melodies or intervals because they do not always sound natural. His comments come amid rapid growth in AI music: Deezer estimated in November that 50,000 AI-generated tracks, or 34% of submissions, were uploaded daily, while Spotify has introduced artist verification badges; AI acts including The Velvet Sundown and Breaking Rust have also achieved streaming or chart success.
