Paul Di’Anno stands alone as the only legendary frontman of Iron Maiden, at least according to Blaze Bayley
Former Iron Maiden singer Blaze Bayley has said that Paul Di’Anno is the band’s only truly “legendary” frontman, despite Bruce Dickinson’s much longer tenure. The remarks underline the lasting influence of Di’Anno’s brief period with the band, particularly among fans who regard Iron Maiden’s earliest recordings as defining works.
Di’Anno joined Iron Maiden in 1978 and sang on its first two albums, 1980’s Iron Maiden and 1981’s Killers, before later vocalists took over. Bayley, who fronted the group during the 1990s, said he considered Di’Anno—who died in 2024—to hold a unique status that neither Dickinson nor other former singers could match.
