The alternate-reality dating comedy, starring Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro, has generated significant online buzz since its trailer racked up nearly 40 million views, with viewers puzzling over how such a law might be enforced and what it would mean for society.

Screenwriter Travis Braun, whose script topped the 2024 Black List, said he built out an extensive "mythology" for the film's world but deliberately left much of the politics unexplored, prioritising the central love story instead. Producer Jacqueline Monetta, who brought the project to director Will Gluck, said the team intentionally withheld answers to every question so audiences would keep debating the premise after leaving the cinema, though some explanations do appear within the film itself.
