Kohei Horikoshi, the artist behind the bestselling My Hero Academia series, has released a new creative venture—a horror/romance one-shot called Quit Laughing, Shijima. The 61-page story follows Azumi, a high school student, as his attraction to an upperclassman named Shijima takes an unsettling turn, subverting expectations of a typical romance narrative. The work debuted in Japan's Weekly Shonen Jump and received simultaneous English availability through the Shonen Jump platform.

This release marks Horikoshi's return to the magazine following the conclusion of My Hero Academia, which ran until 2024 and achieved over 100 million copies sold globally. The genre choice represents a notable departure from the superhero action that dominated his previous serialised work, suggesting the artist is exploring new creative territory after years of commercial success. The standalone format allows him to test unfamiliar storytelling ground before potentially launching his next ongoing series.
