An obscure stage and television performer named Guy Peters attended a meeting in May 1972 with Eon Productions executives, including producer Cubby Broccoli and director Guy Hamilton. Broccoli offered encouragement during the session, mentioning that Peters might have been hired instead of George Lazenby had timing aligned differently. A talent agent later contacted Peters to relay that the interview had impressed the team and they would follow up with further opportunities.
Roger Moore ultimately received the offer to portray the spy, contradicting Broccoli's earlier claim that Moore's television career made him an unsuitable candidate.
