Wrexham are set to sign goalkeeper Anthony Patterson from Sunderland, with manager Phil Parkinson keen to strengthen his goalkeeping options ahead of the new Championship season. The 26-year-old is due to undergo a medical and could feature in Wrexham's league opener away to Cardiff City on 17 August, with the move potentially freeing Arthur Okonkwo to leave the club as his contract enters its final year.

Patterson came through Sunderland's academy, making 169 competitive appearances for the Black Cats and helping them win promotion from League One via the play-offs before featuring 45 times as they secured a further promotion to the Premier League last season. He fell behind Robin Roefs in the pecking order this year and spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Millwall. Wrexham have already brought in Danny Imray and Ben Whiteman this summer, with Parkinson saying further signings are needed to compete in a tough Championship.
