Variety · 4 hours ago

Netflix has confirmed the U.S. release plan for "Ink," Danny Boyle's drama about the founding of Rupert Murdoch's tabloid empire, alongside a first-look image of Guy Pearce as a young Murdoch. The film will open in select American theatres on 11 December before streaming on Netflix from 8 January, positioning it firmly within the awards season conversation as one of the platform's key Oscar contenders.

Based on James Graham's Tony-nominated play, which he has adapted himself, "Ink" stars Jack O'Connell as editor Larry Lamb alongside Claire Foy and Pearce as Murdoch. The film will open the Venice Film Festival in competition for the Golden Lion before screening at Toronto, with Studiocanal handling the international rollout from January into February across France, the Netherlands, Australia, the UK and other territories. It forms part of a heavyweight Netflix awards slate that also includes "La Bola Negra" and "Gentle Monster."
