Network Rail has completed track renewal work at Alfreton Tunnel, on the route between Sheffield and Nottingham. The upgrade is intended to provide smoother, more reliable journeys for passengers and freight services using the line.

Engineers replaced nearly half a kilometre of track during the work, which required a weekend closure on 8 and 9 August. Northern ran replacement buses between Sheffield and Nottingham, while East Midlands Railway operated an amended timetable and reduced services at some stations.
